Revenant à un style plus doux et féerique avec ce nouvel album, Yoko Shimomura met ainsi de côté pour un temps son travail de composition sur Final Fantasy Versus XIII et Super Smash Bros. Brawl pour replonger dans les mélodies enchanteresses de son talent telles qu’elle l’avait fait sur Legend of Mana.

Bien que dénotant certaines allusions dans sa composition aux partitions réalisées pour Kingdom Hearts, la bande originale de Heroes of Mana s’accorde merveilleusement avec l’ambiance mystérieuse et fantasy du jeu, se voulant tant envoûtante qu’entraînante, du fait de son orchestration symphonique, mêlant subtilement sonorités électroniques et instruments à cordes, ce qui se ressent dès les premiers instants de l’aventure avec le thème principal accompagnant la cinématique d’introduction.

Différente du style épique et majestueux de Kenji Itô, pourtant irrémédiablement associé également à la série, l’OST de Heroes of Mana joue en effet davantage la carte de la sérénité et de la magie, se dotant cependant de nombreux thèmes plus héroïques dans leur composition quoiqu’en phase avec l’aspect tactique du jeu.

Se prévalant d’un caractère atypique pour la série, dû à la dénomination RTS du jeu, quoique correspondant tout à fait à l’ambiance générale, la BO de Seiken Densetsu Heroes of Mana renouvelle magnifiquement le genre.
